Results Of Mindfulness Training
The results of mindfulness training are none other than a healthier, more present, less anxious and higher functioning mind. Over the past ten years in depth studies on the effects of mindfulness practice on the brain and human behavior have begun.
The findings have been incredible, showing growth of grey matter in the brain in the vast majority of subjects. Increased connectivity between higher functioning areas of the brain leads practitioners to a richer and more tranquil sense of being while increasing performance, focus and decision making skills.
It is our belief that in the near future mindfulness and meditation practice will become a "no brainer" in public health. The benefits are in a way very similar to physical exercise in relation to the body. For a strong and healthy body, you go to the gym. For a strong and healthy mind, you practice mindfulness.
How It Works
Results from MRI scans done on the brains of practitioners show a heightened ability for executive functioning. It is now being shown that mindfulness practice strengthens the connection between base emotional functioning, or lizard brain, and higher level cognitive thought.
Because mindfulness practice works at the base level of thought, helping us manage our decisions, desires and internal responses, the benefits are applicable to most aspects of human life.
Presentation and training differ in format depending on who we are working with, however there are four main components that are at the foundation of all of our programs.
- Attention/Focus training and regulation
- Physical/body awareness
- Emotional regulation and awareness
- Personal awareness, change in cognitive function and perspective on self
